Wat Phu Khao Thong
Wat Phu Khao Tong, literally the temple of the golden mountain, is located a little out of Ayutthaya towards the North West. The temple is really a large chedi set in the middle of a field - the field was once the site of a major battle between Siam and Burma in the mid 16th century. The Burmese, led by King Bhueng Noreng attacked the struggling Siam in Ayutthaya and sieged the city for 10 months. The chedi at Wat Phu Khao Thong was built in celebration of the Burmese victory.
