Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai, the cultural capital of Thailand, is an excellent base for exploring Northern Thailand. The ancient city surrounded by walls and a moat has plenty of attractions. A very pleasant day can be spent wandering its streets, viewing its temples, pausing for coffee in one of the numerous coffee shops and perusing second hand bookstores. There are plenty of tourist attractions including elephant camps, and of course trips through the local mountains.
