Pai
Pai is a peaceful town located in the mountains to the north west of Chiang Mai. A winding mountainous roadtrip is the commonest route to get there, while the airport offers connecting flights to Chiang Mai. Once in Pai, the commonest activity is to simply relax, chill out in one of the bars and join the rest of the backpackers.

There are plenty of good views in the surrounding area, and the journey by car or bus will definitely be memorable. Once in Pai, you can rent motorbikes and find your way to the waterfalls, or the hot springs. Tourrist sites also include Wat Nam Hu, a memorial bridge purportedly from World War II, and the unique geography of Pai canyon. To be fair none of these attractions are worthy of world recognition, but then that's not what Pai is for - Pai is for getting away from it all and chilling out.
