Ram Khamhaeng Monument

Ram Khamhaeng the Great is a king with close ties to the history of Sukhothai, and this monument to him is located in the midst of Sukhothai Historical Park. He was involved when his father liberated Sukhothai from it's previous Khmer leaders and as they established the Kingdom of Sukhothai that he was later to rule.

One of the most interesting things about Ram Khamhaeng is that he is credited with developing the Thai script, which is sometimes viewed controversially. He was also a proponent of Theravada Buddhism, establishing it as the main state religion.
