Wat Mahathat

Wat Mahathat is one of the most important temples in the history of Thailand, as it representst he historical center of ancient Sukhothai. Wat Mahathat is situated right in the middle of the moat that surrounds the main historical park. The name Mahathat translates as the great relic, and it now suitably fits this name.
The temple contains many buddha statues, as well a numerous chedi - presumably old funeral monuments. The temple reflects magnificently off of the moat that surrounds it creating a memorable image. One can easily imagine the former splendour of the temple previously coated in gold.
